The dog arrived at the Capital District Veterinary Hospital in Latham on Thursday, Jan. 12, where staff determined she was hypothermic, dehydrated, and suffering from multiple puncture wounds, according to Albany Police.

Employees contacted the department’s Special Operations Unit, whose members investigate animal cruelty complaints.

Investigators determined that the dog’s owner, 24-year-old Tahir Jeffers, of Albany, had failed to provide her with adequate food, water, and medical care, police said.

The neglect reportedly led to the animal suffering from starvation, anemia, and broken teeth.

After being treated at the veterinary hospital, the dog was taken in by the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Menands.

Jeffers is facing one count of aggravated animal cruelty. He was arraigned Wednesday, Jan .18, in Albany City Criminal Court and released from custody while he awaits his next court appearance.
